Jeanne's Endometriosis Blog: My Shelfari Bookshelf, Poll On Topics Of Interest To Readers, FEEDjit Traffic Tools, and More...
Little by little, I have been adding to the tools you see in the sidebar of this blog.
One of the newest updates is called "My Shelfari Bookshelf". If you scroll down the right sidebar, you'll see what looks like a bookcase. The books I have put into this virtual bookcase don't necessarily pertain to endometriosis but I put them there because some endo blog readers may enjoy reading them as I did. Some of them were already "book reviewed" in previous posts on this blog (or were mentioned on the blog). Others are simply books you might like.
Those of you who have been following this blog for awhile have most likely noticed the FEEDjit "traffic map" tools I have used. I am consistently amazed this blog has gotten visits from all over the world. Here are just a few examples of places where this blog's traffic has originated: Serbia, Canada, South Africa, Australia, The UK, Mexico, The U.S., The Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia just to name a few. I am amazed at how varied the traffic has been in less than 1 & 1/2 months of writing this blog.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post: "Endometriosis Topics: What Interests YOU??? Let's VOTE Using A SHORT Poll To Show What We Want To Read About Endometriosis!", I would GREATLY appreciate if endo blog readers will take a brief moment to VOTE using the POLL which I created to better understand what topics are the most needed and wanted by our endometriosis and chronic illness blog readers.
Today I accepted an invitation from my blogger friend, Tracee, to join Twitter. I signed up for it today and it's in the blog's sidebar.
Your feedback is very important to me! Please let me know your impressions of the blog so far...
I hope you all have had a great weekend so far. Please check in again soon as I expect some endometriosis news to be posted next week. Stay tuned! :)

That shelfari is cute! And I've been wanting a twitter, but I didn't know that's what it was called!!
Your new look is pretty and professional looking. We must keep trying new avenues on our blogs to reach the people who need the information.
Shelfari is another community that may generate traffic to your blog. Hopefully it does. If what you are looking for is not there, you can also start your own community.
I, like you, am amazed at how far- reaching our blogs are. before FEEDjit, I had no idea that people from all over the world were viewing my blog. There were times when I thought no one was.
It is certainly encouraging when you go to someone's blog and see where people are viewing from. Hopefully it will encourage you to keep blogging.
Jeanne, I know I sound like a broken record (Did I just tell my age?), but your blog is so important and it is helping untold amounts of people.
Once someone reads your blog, they talk about it to their family and friends and then those people tell someone and it just goes on and on and on. I know that is how your blog has affected me.
Thank you so much.

Alicia,
Thanks! I just love books so when I discovered My Shelfari I thought it would be a nice addition to the blog. :) Checking out Twitter has been in my "to do' list so I took Tracee up on the invitation when she sent it to me. It took a little time to get used to it but it's easy to use. It was just a bit for me to understand how people use it...

mckay k,
Thank you so much! I actually think I stumbled across My Shelfari when I was looking at your blog and then I clicked on a link from your site to another blog, if I remember correctly.
I have spent so much time online get things organized lately that I may be remembering incorrectly but I'm pretty sure that's how I found it.
It's amazing how much one can learn simply by reading others' blogs and observing the tools they use. I agree that the tools are key to attracting new readers and therefore reaching out to more and more people who may find useful info for them if they can just find it to a relevant blog in this big world we call the Internet.
Plus I think it makes blogs more fun to have pictures to go with the words. I think it keep people's attention better and prevents them from getting bored (no matter how good the content it) and just hopping to another site in their "surfing".
That would be great if Shelfari generates traffic.
I am in one of those times when I have too many ideas to implement or follow up on because every day I'm learning so much about blogging and finding so much new info.
I have to pace myself and not overdo my computer time. It can be a tricky balance.
Yes, I love the FEEDjit traffic tools. I never would have known I had readers on the other side of the world until those beautiful red dots started popping up on my traffic map! Each dot makes me so happy because it represents another person the blog has reached!
Plus, as you said, one dot actually can end up affecting more than just one person due to word of mouth.
It's amazing. It helps me out when I think that maybe I'm writing but that it’s just “disappearing into the ether"... and then to just see the traffic map, the comments, and some direct emails... and to realize that the blog really is reaching people. :)
I agree. When I see traffic meters/maps on others' blogs I find it equally interesting. That's how I found FEEDjit in the first place... by admiring it on someone's blog and deciding I wanted to use that tool on my blog too.
The idea of reaching people in various parts of the world is extremely exciting to me since 89+ MILLION women are estimated to have endometriosis worldwide. I believe this is the best way I have to reach the most people. :)
Yes, the part of FEEDjit where I can determine just HOW someone found my blog is crucial! (Did they just Google me? If so, what terms did they use to search and am I using those terms within my articles or in my tags?? Did they enter my blog from another blog/site? If so, is it one I know or should I go and check it out?)
I could probably spend 24 hours a day on this "detective work" if my body would let me!!
For example, "Did they find my blog via a community like MyBlogLog --- which is how I found you?!!" Just analyzing the blog traffic is a busy job.
It really is fascinating to see just how creative people are at searching for info and reaching out to others. It's actually very inspiring!!
Every time I login I get encouragement to keep blogging. Honestly, writing and maintaining this blog is a ‘rush’ and I just love it!
No, you didn't mention your age. I'm honestly not one to really get too hung up on age. My husband is, though! When he hit 40, I thought it was going to kill him. He was "sooo old", as he put it.
Getting older doesn't bother me a bit! With age comes wisdom. I will be 40 this year and I welcome it. I'm ready to leave my 30s this year. :)
I do agree with you that blogs like yours and mine reach more people than we even realize.
Your chronic illness and koi pond blogs are so great that I have you on my handful of "frequently visited sites" list.
Chronic illness:

Koi pond:
http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/koiwonderland/
There's a reason for that. I really love your writing style, attitude, positivity and helping style.
I love how candid you are and that your blog talks about multiple illnesses (as mine does) so as to use your personal life experience to assist others in their journeys!
I love the koi pond because it's so beautiful and peaceful and I know it brings you joy! I have talked with my husband about your koi pond.
When we built our house we had grand ideas of how we were going to landscape things.
Between my illnesses and our finances, we unfortunately have never followed up on all of our ideas.
We do the best we can with our resources but we haven't done what we had planned.
So when I see your koi pond, it makes me very happy for you!!!!
You don't sound like a broken record to me! You just sound like a sensitive, caring woman who is strong and resilient... and wise in the best sense of the word!
Whatever your age may be, I say "be proud of it". You've earned your age... whatever it is.
Just think about how much you learn in a day or week of blogging. A whole year is mind-boggling, right?
I can't imagine how much I'll learn by a year from now about blogging. I just love it. My biggest challenge is probably to pace myself and not "burn out"!
I really wish I had more time to comment on other people’s blogs, for example. There are only so many hours in a day, I’m afraid.
I really have to hold myself back a little because I get so excited that I sometimes don't know "when to quit".
My dear husband "kicked me off the computer" last night after seeing my feet and ankles. A new med I took recently (and have since discontinued) has swollen them up terribly (a rare side effect of the Rx) and I really needed to put them up. He was right!
I really needed to get off the computer. We were watching a great DVD last night (“The Great Debaters” with Denzel Washington) and I just abandoned the computer and joined him watching the movie the proper way (instead of watching it with my peripheral vision and head-turning while also trying to type at the same time). Multi-tasking is overrated, I have found.
I'm glad he helped me to "quit the computer time" and just simply watch the movie.
What a moving and great movie! The special features section was awesome because they showed the real people who inspired the characters. Amazing stuff!! It made me cry.
Your kind words are bringing tears to my eyes. I am so glad you like my blog and you can be sure I have been talking about your blog (blogs, actually) to others in the same way!
In fact, I hope to show your koi pond to my mom while her eyes are still well enough to see it. It's so pretty! Her computer is very slow and on dial up so I have to figure out the best way to get her to see it.
Your touching words and kind manner here are just so classic for your writing style and generosity.
Thank YOU so much for all that you do!!!
Your blog was one of the ones that stood out enough for me to reference it on my blog. I only have a handful of those. So that should give you an idea of how much I appreciate your perspectives on things and your overall attitude and grace.
Thank you so much for your support and kind words. You made my day! :)
Jeanne
