'Jeanne's Endo Blog': Endochick Inspired Me To Post Beethoven For Healing. Try it!

Meet my fellow endometriosis blogger,
Endochick:

Endochick recently commented on one of my blog posts and I decided her comments would make a good post. After all, one can never get too much healing. I wrote January 7, 2009 with one of my many posts about Tori Amos, my favorite musician, and why Tori's music is healing for me.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 A Tori Amos Music Break For Healing, Quote Of The Day From 'The Foundation For A Better Life', And Also A Bit Of RAINN...

Endochick uses music as a tool for healing just as I do. Endochick commented back (to my Tori post above) with a couple of her favorites for healing. Both were Beethoven pieces.

I decided to honor Endochick by posting 'Karajan - Beethoven Symphony No. 5 - Parts 1 and 2' here. After all, you never can get too much healing!

What's that? You don't have time to enjoy these classic clips? Sure you do. Click play and work on laundry. Go ahead. You don't even have to look at the screen. You can go fold and fluff while appreciating this soothing music. Try it.

There are two clips below. I looked at various clips on YouTube and decided to go with a pair from 1966. Yes, thet are in black and white. After looking through several options, I decided these clips sounded the closest to the music I heard that fantastic summer night a couple of years back. (You'll have to see my comment back to Endochick in the same post just listed for more details about that night at the symphony to know what I'm talking about)...

Karajan Conducting Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Part 1 (Movements 1 and 2). Very old and rare film, no longer in print, recorded in 1966. (Posted on YouTube by "magic5227"). See MusOpen!

INTERMISSION:

Okay. You may take a break to go switch loads now. Don't worry. The second clip will be here when you get back.

"Karajan Conducting Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Part 2 (Movements 3 and 4). Very old and rare film, no longer in print, recorded in 1966". (Posted on YouTube by "magic5227". See MusOpen!

Music is healing. Whatever type of music it is that makes YOU feel better, turn it on! You'll be glad you did!

I have a sister who is 90% deaf in one ear. She has been since childhood. I now have a slight hearing loss in my right ear. I went to a symphony once and sat next to a guy int he front row who was like my sister. He kept his hands on the stage when they played. I asked him why and he said so he could feel the music as Beethoven had written it. As you may know, Beethoven himself went deaf in his adult life and had to put his hand on the intruments and his ears on the pianos, etc. So I tried this with him. It blew me away! To feel the vibrations... I closed my eyes and listened to the music and felt the music at the same time... it was a surreal experience that I'll never forget. And so whenever my sister and I go we try to get the front row so we can place our hands on the stage to "feel the music."

BTW - Thanks for the post - Hope everyone enjoys Beethoven as much as I do.

Endochick,

I'm sorry that your sister is 90% deaf in one ear... if, in fact, she views it as a negative.

I once heard Marlee Matlin interviewed and her outlook on deafness was really interesting.

It sounded like she didn't look at it as a negative thing at all. (Have you ever seen her movie "What The Bleep Do We Know?"... What an amazing movie!

That is great that the man next to you gave you the idea to "feel the music".

As a child, I remember wondering how Stevie Wonder could play the piano the way he does... with his being blind. Do you get it? "Wonder"...

Okay. BAD pun but I couldn't resist. Sorry about that!

It's funny but my daughter can play the piano with her head turned around like an owl looking at me sitting behind her! (She's 8). I'm assuming that she can "feel the music" to be able to do this... no matter how much she has practiced it. (She sees and hears fine).

She also plays the organ with her right hand and the piano with her left hand simultaneously.

We have the organ set up at a 90 degree angle to the piano. (Can you tell this is a girl who heard Tori Amos daily in utero)??

She also played the organ with her toes a few weeks back. (I'm not making this stuff up).

Yes, I knew about Beethoven's deafness and meant to mention it in the post. Thanks for mentioning it here. It just goes to show what someone can accomplish with a disability...

Yes, "feeling the music" is pretty amazing, isn't it?? Sitting in the 3rd row for Tori is something I will never forget!

I hope that you and your sister can always get seats in the front row!!!

How can anyone not like Beethoven?

Seriously, I think most people can appreciate his genius... even if it's not their favorite type of music.

You have to give it to the man. His music is about as classic as it gets! How many people's music gets played decade after decade after decade??

Alicia,

I think music is extremely powerful!

Regardless of what type of music, what artist, what musical style... I don't know of anyone who doesn't like music.

Whatever kind of music provides healing for a person, to me, is what matters.

Music can uplift mood or it can calm. It can lower blood pressure or perk people up.

It can bring back memories. It can be used to access positive emotions that facilitate healing.

It is really powerful.

I could kiss Beethoven if he were still alive. And had had a bath, as I guess the oldd hygiene in them days was not quite up to today's par.

Oh Jannie,

Jannie, Jannie, Jannie...

You are always my comic relief on this sometimes-too-serious blog, you goofy woman you! What would I do without the "Funster"??

Thank you for making me smile everytime I see a note with your name on it.

Jeanne

P.S. Since you're a songwriter, I know you appreciate Beethoven's genius. :)

Oh, also... with all of that lumberjacking you do splitting wood, what makes you think you'd smell any better then Beethoven? Oh, and, just remember that pouring perfume on it would make things much, much worse. Just think of all the MCS patients like me. Think of Melissa's story of spontaneous vomiting due to the perfume-sprayer-lady at a dept store... from a previous comment:

Or think of Squidge's Giorgio story (also from link above)...

You are too funny!

Endochick,

Ha ha. I saw your comment sitting in moderation and was certain I had replied to it days ago.

However, I was so behind on moderating comments that I thought I must be confused. Nope. It's just Blogger being silly again. (I am envying your Wordpress while I wait for the right time to make my switch. My energy level right now has pushed the transfer back but I have a plan).

Anyway, sorry for the duplicate posting of your comments. Blame silly Blogger! :)
