Blog Action Day 2008 -- Poverty: October 15, 2008

I'm re-posting some information I had written a few days back in preparation for Blog Action Day. I wanted to create awareness of Blog Action Day in advance but would like to repeat some of the sentiments I expressed recently. Also included in this post is the Blog Action Day video that I thought was worth re-posting as well.

Writing a blog, for me, is about more than just sticking to one topic day in and day out. While this blog focuses on endometriosis and other chronic illnesses, I think it's important to participate in events that can have an impact beyond the day-to-day struggles we as chronically ill patients face.

For those of us who routinely have enough food to eat, have a home to live in, and do not live in fear for our day-to-day safety and security, it's hard to imagine what it's like to live in poverty. Whatever challenges we may face, I believe it's important to remember those less fortunate than us and do what we can to make this a better world for all.

Video: Phil Collins "Another Day In Paradise":

Poverty affects many people. Too many. Our society can and should do more to help those living in poverty to have access to opportunites to enable them to lift themselves out of poverty. Unfortunately, there are many people in our society who do not have the oppotunities or resources to find a way to life themselves out of poverty.

At a time when the national and worldwide economy are in turmoil, donations to charities such as food banks and soup kitchens may decrease as people are preparing for what is predicted to be a turbulent time for the ecomony. In times like this, it's more important than ever for society to remember those who are in need of basic survival items like food and shelter. With cold weather months approaching, this becomes even more important in cold climate areas.

I hope you'll take a moment to view the following video. The more we can get the word out about this event, the better.

I'm posting the following video for Blog Action Day on October 15, 2008. To learn more about Blog Action Day, just click on the Blog Action Day graphic on the right sidebar of the blog.

This year's topic is poverty. Let's get a conversation going about this important topic!!

If you have any ideas on how to help those affected by poverty, please post your comments to this article. Who knows? You may have an idea that someone else hadn't thought of but that could make a positive difference in someone's life!
